Lewis Hamilton on the challenge of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc

Lewis Hamilton says that he will have to work”twice as hard” to keep ahead of increasing F1 celebrities Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.
Leclerc and verstappen, together with championship leader Hamilton, have proved the front-running celebrities of the season so far. Mercedes’ Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen have won two of the five races with Ferrari’s Leclerc winning another in his breakthrough victory at Spa last Sunday.
Hamilton is older than both 21-year-olds 13 years and continues to be impressed with their own early-career progress.
“They’re both doing a phenomenal job,” Hamilton told Sky Sports in Italy ahead of this weekend’s race at Monza.
“It is fascinating to watch their travel because I have been there at that age in the earlier part of my career and seeing with the trials and tribulations that you go through. So I can empathise with what they’re going through.
“I have to work twice as hard now to keep ahead of these as they are young and fresh and energised, and it is harder when you get older to stay as healthy, as pushed and as sharp.”
Hamilton directs the world championship with a sizable margin with eight races left and remains the standard-bearer of F1 although Leclerc and Verstappen are contributing the sport’s next generation of young motorists.
The five-time winner insists”I don’t even know the number of things I have” but says he keeps tabs on his race ending positions and”that is what I try to maintain as high as you can”.
“I have no idea if and when or how the rest of the championship is going to go but I must attempt to make sure I keep punching at the elevated level,” said the winner of eight of 2019’s hitherto 13 races.
Mercedes are the defending winners of this GP having gone awry in F1 circuit since the present engine age began in 2014. Winning a few of these races, Hamilton is also the combined Monza file holder with five victories.
But has the home group been recognized by the remarkable win for Ferrari in Belgium of Leclerc !
